Vintage real photograph post card circa early 1900s. A black and white photograph of a rural scene of The Avenue, Burton, Scunthorpe, Great Britain. Antique image of a tree lined lane. And "M and L Post Card National Series" Post Card, Printed in Great Britain and is a real photograph post card. The "AZO" with the tiny triangle shapes around the place stamp here dates this gelatin print RPPC as being produced between 1904 and 1918. This is a gelatin print photograph made on Azo paper. The chloride papers were made with very small particles of silver suspended in a gelatin emulsion. They tend to be vulnerable to contamination and can easily deteriorate. They were much faster than collodion based papers and were able to be exposed indoors under gaslight lamps (gaslight paper), but they remained slow enough to be used only in contact printing. Its ease of use made it the most popular paper on the market for real photo postcards. They were manufactured with postcard backs. Although the exact age is difficult to determine because of the nature of the scene, it dates from approximately 100 years ago. The card is 5.5" x 3.5" or 14 cm x 8.9 cm Condition: Good vintage with a few flaws, such as on the center from of the photo, there is a white residue, perhaps paint, dripped. The corners are just slightly bent and the underside is somewhat yellowed and stained with age, with a few smudges and marks.
