The slit for opening is about 8” wide.
Hand stitched, hand sewn.
Origins unknown, but from the style and the type of fabric used for the back of the cushion, perhaps the 1930s-1940s or earlier even.
Condition:
The needlepoint work is in excellent condition. The backing fabric is very primitively sewn on and the edges are fraying a bit, especially on the cut, unfinished, opening. There is a bit of a gap between the two pieces, about a ½”, that may require a less fuller insert of amount of stuffing, or the addition of a fabric piece. And it will require a form of closure. the backing fabric has been attached wrong side down, it is unclear why. Again, as mentioned above, this pillow would need to be stuffed or filled with a small insert, approximately 8" x 8". It could also be repurposed in a number of creative ways.
