An antique lidded sugar pot. Transferware, purple on white ironstone in the Temple pattern by Podmore, Walker & Company. A mulberry, oriental look chinoiserie pattern on a Gothic panel canister or tall sugar bowl with lid. This 1850s serving piece is damaged (the knob handle is broken off) and has heavy crazing and discoloration throughout, particularly on the bottom. The lid is much less stained than the base, which makes it appear more white.
Approximate size:
7 1/2” tall with lid
6.5” wide at handles
3” opening diameter
No maker's marks.
Condition:
Fair, antique, pre-owned condition. As mentioned above, the knob is broken off and missing. There is heavy crazing, staining, discoloration and wear throughout this very old and rare piece, that adds to the charm. The bottom is more dicolored than the lid, which appears more white. The condition has been factored into the price.
