Unmarked, but likely number 1448 published by Edward H. Mitchell, San Francisco, California. Number 1448, printed 1908 to 1909.
This card is marked on the underside:
"Printed in the United States
Edward H. Mitchell, Publisher, San Francisco"
Edward H. Mitchell Co. published from 1898-1923 out of 225 Post Street, San Francisco, CA and major printer and publisher of view-cards depicting scenes throughout the American West. They also published a variety of other card types including large sets of flowers, exaggerations, and view-cards of Hawaii and the Philippines. They developed a number of their own unique techniques to print their cards like the Mitchell Photo-Chrome Process, bu many cards were also contracted out to other printers. Likewise they printed postcards for a number of other publishers. Their cards were printed in both the United States and in Germany.
The card is used, postmarked in 1909 (the year of Seattle's World's Fair) in Seattle Washington, there is a written message to Southampton N.Y. and it still retains the original 1 cent stamp.
The underside is marked:
"Printed in the United States"
and
"Edward H. Mitchell Publisher San Francisco"
The written message reads:
"My new adress is Grand Thatar
Victoria
British Columbia"
Condition:
Very good used vintage condition for its age, with very minor some wear. All color and printing, as well as handwriting and postmark, are very clear. There is a touch of yellowing, speckling and slight marring at all corners, minor wear at edges and a crease at one corner. There is also a faint scratch line across one corner and some wear around the color of the card closer to the edges. The underside is discolored from age, mostly evenly except for the corners wear it may have been affixed to a scrap book.
The card is 5.5" x 3.5" or 14 cm x 8.9 cm
This item will be kept safe in a sealed archival sleeve, shipped inside a flat, unbendable mailer.
