Antique portrait or spooky, Edwardian children. A framed, charcoal drawing of a baby boy and toddler girl. The frame is ornate gilt gesso on wood. A large wall piece, 26" x 22". A ooak artwork with a gothic, haunted feel, sourced from an 1800s New England farmhouse.
26” x 22 1/2” at with frame with a 2 ¼” projection
This piece was salvaged from a farm house in the small historical town of Shaftsbury, in southern Vermont. The piece dates from approximately 1900.
Good, antique, used, as is condition considering the age and nature of the piece. The main flaw to the actual artwork is that it seems to have suffered some water damage, as there are large areas of staining mostly at the edges and bottom portion of the piece. Amazingly, the figures themselves, especially their faces, are clear and seemingly undamaged. The glass is very thick and heavy and also undamaged. The frame however, white structurally intact, cosmetically shows wear and damage, as is common with gesso/plaster over wood frames of this age. There are large areas where the plaster is completely chipped away and missing. The plaster relief is in extremely fragile shape, and likely bits will continue to flake away in the packing and shipping process. Please see photos closely.
