Vintage Virgin Mary Immaculate Conception Miraculous medal. The small oval sterling silver religious charm has a relief Virgin Mary and has a aged patina.
The year of 1830 is at the base of her feet, where she stands upon what is supposed to be the world, and is the year that the idea for the design was said to be given Saint Catherine Labour, by the Blessed Mother.
The oval is borded in the etched saying: "O Mary Conceived Without Sin Pray For Us Who Have Recourse To Thee."
The back of the medal has the traditional motif of this particular design.
Small and in the an centralized oval, there is the twelve raised stars represent the Apostles. The cross can symbolize Christ and redemption, with the bar under the cross a sign of the earth. The “M” stands for Mary, intertwined with her initial and the cross. The two hearts represent the love of Jesus and Mary for mankind.
The medal is marked "Sterling" on the backside, and I believe there are no other maker's marks, but because of the heavy patina, I cannot be certain. I believe it to be American made, sometimes prior to midcentury, c. 1940s, but due to the wear and patina, earlier is likely.

Good vintage with a heavy tarnish that has created a lovely patina throughout. The medal has a lot of wear and some oxidation, which adds to it's uniqueness and appeal. However, some of the words and symbols are difficult to discern. I have intentionally left this piece unpolished, to leave that decision up to the buyer.
