Large flower pin in sterling silver, possibly BaurING Sterling. A rectangle brooch of two climbing, intricale silver cabbage roses and leaves. A framed floral scroll design.
Marked "sterling" (although only partially legible) on the back.
It seems like there was another mark at one point, above the sterling, but it is worn away.
This piece looks similar to some BaurING Sterling rose pieces, which date from the 1940s at the latest. I have come across the same piece marked: "Baur." However, the mark is worn and because it seems like the sterling word stands alone. It may very well have been made at Bauring and not by Bernhard Baur, but by one of the other workers, as I have been told, often happened. Baur would allow the workers often to make special pieces for their loves, as well.
Size: 2 3/8" x 1 3/8" x .25" deep or 6.1 cm x 4 cm x .6 cm
Weight: a little less than .8 oz
Excellent vintage condition. There is some wear and a large of amount of tarnish. It is difficult to determine the amount fo wear because of the patina. Most of the darker tarnish can be seen on the back and within the roses "petals" This sterling piece has been left unpolished intentionally, to leave the decision up to you. If upon purchase, you would prefer the piece polished, I will gladly do so upon request. However, keep in mind it may be difficult to remove it from the intricate areas and the deep nooks. And, it will greatly change the look of the piece.
